A comforting recipe for Sourdough French Toast, perfect for lazy brunches, featuring fluffy slices soaked in a custardy egg mixture and served with maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or oil for cooking
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
  3. Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture, ensuring it soaks for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  5. Serve the golden Sourdough French Toast hot with maple syrup on top.

Notes

For best texture, use stale or day-old sourdough. Feel free to add a splash of orange zest for a twist or make it savory by omitting sugar and cinnamon.
