A comforting pull-apart garlic bread using sourdough starter discard, with buttery, garlicky pieces and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter discard
  • 2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic (minced) or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped parsley
  • Cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or dairy-free cheese)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a large mixing bowl, mixing to form a shaggy dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1-2 hours until doubled.
  4. Prepare garlic butter by melting butter and adding minced garlic and parsley.
  5. Punch down the dough and turn it out, dividing into small golf ball-sized pieces.
  6. Coat each piece in garlic butter and layer them in a greased bundt pan or loaf pan.
  7. Second rise, covering the pan for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool before serving to enjoy warm, pull-apart pieces.

Notes

For added flavor, brush more garlic butter on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
