A comforting shepherd’s pie filled with ground meat and vegetables, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet.
  3. Add the chopped onion and diced carrots, cook until softened.
  4. Brown the ground meat until fully cooked.
  5. Stir in the tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and peas.
  6. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture into a baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes over the meat mixture.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden on top.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a creamier mash, add butter or cream. Substitute meat for lentils for a vegetarian option.
