A decadent Root Beer Float Cake that combines the rich flavor of chocolate with the refreshing taste of root beer, perfect for gatherings and celebrations.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup root beer
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • Root beer extract (optional, for garnish)
  • Maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine the buttermilk, root beer, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in another bowl. Mix well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  7. Once cool, top with whipped cream and garnish with root beer extract and maraschino cherries if desired.

Notes

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a glass of root beer for an extra nostalgic touch. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
