Delightful red velvet cookie bars with a rich cocoa flavor and cream cheese frosting, perfect for sharing.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Red velvet crumbs (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the butter mixture, stirring until just blended.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan.
  7. Beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth for frosting.
  8. Frost the cooled bars and sprinkle with red velvet crumbs.
  9. Slice and serve the cookie bars.
