A classic red velvet cake that combines soft, moist layers with tangy cream cheese frosting, perfect for celebrations.

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar in another bowl.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
