  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  3. Beat together the vegetable oil and granulated sugar until well combined.
  4. Add the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and white vinegar to the mixture; mix until smooth.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with your favorite cream cheese frosting.

Notes

Ensure your eggs and buttermilk are at room temperature for best results. Don’t skip the vinegar as it helps the cake rise.
