Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (450g, 80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 small onion (finely diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tablespoons homemade mix)
  • 2/3 cup tomato sauce or salsa
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 8 hard taco shells
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional, for serving)
  • Guacamole (optional, for serving)
  • Jalapeño slices (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Stand taco shells upright in a 9×13 inch baking dish, positioning them close together to keep them steady.
  3. Cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat for about 6 minutes, breaking up the meat as it cooks until it’s nicely browned. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Add minced garlic and taco seasoning to the beef mixture, stirring for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens and coats the beef nicely.
  6. Spoon approximately 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture into each taco shell, being generous!
  7. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of shredded cheese over each filled taco.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the edges of the taco shells turn golden brown.
  9. Cool for 2 minutes. Top your tacos with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.
  10. Serve your creation with sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeño slices on the side!
