A delightful lemon cake that captures the essence of summer with its zesty flavor and creamy frosting.

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 large lemons, zest and juice
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, blending well after each.
  6. Incorporate the lemon zest, juice, and vanilla extract.
  7. Combine the wet and dry mixtures alternately with sour cream.
  8. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  11. Frost with cream cheese frosting after cooling completely.
