Ingredients

  • Chicken pieces (legs or breasts)
  • Buttermilk
  • Hot sauce
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Pickles (for serving)
  • White bread (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in a mixture of buttermilk and hot sauce for several hours or overnight.
  2. Prepare the spiced flour mixture by combining flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the chicken with the flour mixture after removing excess buttermilk.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Prepare the hot oil mixture using some frying oil, extra cayenne pepper, and garlic powder.
  7. Brush the hot oil mixture over the fried chicken for added flavor.
  8. Serve the chicken on soft white bread topped with pickles.
