Delicious homemade mozzarella sticks, golden and gooey on the inside, perfect for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oil in a pot or deep fryer to 350°F.
  2. Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks, approximately 1/2 inch thick and about 3 inches long.
  3. Combine breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a shallow dish.
  4. Place all-purpose flour in another shallow dish.
  5. Whisk the eggs in a third shallow dish until well combined.
  6. Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, then dip in the whisked eggs, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture. For a double coating, repeat this process.
  7. Freeze the coated sticks on a baking sheet for about 30 minutes.
  8. Heat the oil back to 350°F and carefully lower the mozzarella sticks in batches.
  9. Fry for about 1-2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  11. Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Freeze mozzarella sticks before frying to maintain shape and texture. They can also be baked at 400°F for 10-12 minutes if preferred.
