  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. Combine the applesauce, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs in a large bowl and whisk until smooth.
  3. Mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in another bowl.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the walnuts if using, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Cool the cake in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
