A delicious and comforting mixed berry crisp with a crunchy topping that celebrates family traditions and brings warmth to every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen – blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed berries with granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, lemon zest, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Gently stir until the berries are beautifully coated and glossy. Pour this berry mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Now, add the cold, cubed butter to the bowl. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, dotted with visible chunks of butter.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the berry mixture—but resist the urge to press it down! Now, transfer the baking dish to the oven. Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling at the edges.
  4. Once baked, remove the crisp from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
