Delicious tartlets filled with a rich, caramel-like maple custard and encased in a flaky brown butter crust.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown.
  3. Make the tartlet dough by combining flour, granulated sugar, and salt; incorporate the cooled brown butter.
  4. Shape the dough into tartlet pans and prick the bottoms with a fork.
  5. Bake the crusts for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  6. Prepare the filling by whisking together maple syrup, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  7. Fill the baked crusts with the maple filling.
  8. Bake the filled tartlets for an additional 15-20 minutes until the filling is set.
  9. Cool the tartlets before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
