A delightful homemade bread infused with gooey mozzarella, tangy parmesan, and fragrant Italian herbs, perfect as a side or a centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1½ tablespoons dried Italian herb blend
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy, then add olive oil, 3 cups flour, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough: Knead on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding remaining flour as needed.
  3. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Mix softened butter with minced garlic and dried herbs to prepare herb butter.
  5. Roll dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle, spread with herb butter, and sprinkle with cheeses and parsley.
  6. Roll tightly from the long side, pinch seam to seal, and place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Let rise another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
