Delicious, chewy homemade soft pretzel bites that are perfect for snacking and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • â…“ cup baking soda (for boiling solution)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir gently until the sugar is dissolved, then sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top. Allow this to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy and bubbly.
  2. Mix the dough: Once the yeast is activated, add the salt and flour to the mixture. Mix until the dough has come together.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
  5. Boil the bites: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large pot, bring about 10 cups of water to a gentle boil and stir in the baking soda. Carefully drop dough pieces into the boiling water for 30 seconds.
  6. Bake to perfection: Remove the bites from the boiling water and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the bites to cool for a few minutes before enjoying. Brush with melted butter if desired.

Notes
