This homemade caramel sauce is deceptively simple yet yields spectacular results, perfect for drizzling over desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown.
  2. Add in the butter and whisk vigorously until fully melted and combined.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream carefully, stirring until smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  5. Allow to cool before using; it will thicken as it cools.

Notes

Store leftover caramel in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently if it hardens.
