A comforting French Toast Casserole made with brioche, soaked in a sweet custard and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish generously.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak all the bread.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden and the casserole is set.
  7. Serve warm, drizzling with maple syrup and sprinkling powdered sugar on top.

Notes

Use brioche or challah for best results. Make ahead by preparing the casserole overnight.
