Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons sugar for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy; then beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  4. Shape the dough into balls and flatten each on ungreased cookie sheets; sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown and let them cool before decorating.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for three months. You can change flavors by adding lemon zest or food coloring to the dough.
