Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Pour it over the chocolate in a bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes before stirring until smooth.
  10. Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread ganache between the layers and on the top and sides of the cake.

Notes
