Soft, buttery cut-out sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion, decorated to create delightful memories.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and optional almond extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes.
  8. Place the cookie shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack before decorating with icing.
