A delicious dish featuring crispy chicken coated in a bright, tangy orange sauce that brings a taste of takeout to your home kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound chicken breast (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • To taste vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (ensure it’s halal)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • To taste sesame seeds
  • To taste sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Coating: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs and set aside.
  2. Coat the Chicken: Dip each piece of chicken into the egg, letting the excess drip off, and then roll it in the seasoned flour mixture until well coated.
  3. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until ready.
  4. Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the coated chicken to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Make the Zesty Sauce: In a separate saucepan, combine fresh orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  6. Toss the Chicken in the Sauce: Add the crispy chicken pieces to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Transfer to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

For an extra crunch, dip your chicken in the egg and then in cornstarch before the flour. Ensure the oil is hot enough to avoid sogginess.
