Delightfully crispy mini blooming onions made in the air fryer, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by cutting the tops off and peeling them. Make vertical cuts to create petals and soak in buttermilk for 30 minutes.
  2. Mix the coating by combining flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. Dredge the soaked onions in the seasoned flour mixture.
  4. Double dip the onions back into buttermilk for maximum crispiness.
  5. Roll the onions in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Air fry the onions for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
