Transform leftover mashed potatoes into crispy and delicious fries, combining the golden crunch of fries with creamy potato flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or leftover, smooth)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour if preferred)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for added flavor)
  • Oil for frying or baking (olive oil, vegetable oil, or your favorite halal oil)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine your smooth mashed potatoes with all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Optionally, toss in grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until you have a thick, cohesive dough.
  2. Shape the Fries: With floured hands, take portions of the potato mixture and shape them into fries about 4-6 inches long and 1 inch thick. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Cook the Fries: For frying, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and add the fries until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. For baking, preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Serve: Serve the fries hot with a sprinkle of extra salt and a side of your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

These fries can be jazzed up with various spices and are great with dipping sauces. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
