A warm and comforting breakfast casserole with a rich, creamy texture and a delightful crunch, perfect for brunch gatherings.

  • 1 (12-14 ounce) loaf of French bread or challah
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 and 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  3. Cube the loaf of French bread or challah into 1-inch cubes.
  4. Beat together the softened cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the first layer of bread cubes.
  6. Layer the remaining bread cubes on top.
  7. Whisk together the eggs, whole milk, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar.
  8. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and cream cheese layers.
  9. Chill the casserole covered in plastic wrap for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  10. Prepare the topping by mixing brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cold cubed butter until crumbly.
  11. Sprinkle the topping over the casserole and bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes.

Notes

Serve with fresh berries, maple syrup, or whipped cream. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
