A creamy and cheesy copycat version of Chick-fil-A’s famous mac and cheese, perfect for family nights or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta in generously salted boiling water until al dente (about 7-9 minutes). Drain thoroughly; do not rinse.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 2-3 minutes until a pale, nutty roux forms.
  3. Gradually whisk in warm milk until the sauce is smooth and thickened, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Gradually add shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, stirring continuously until melted and smooth.
  5. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the cooked, drained macaroni until every noodle is coated.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving for the best consistency.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheese for the best melting quality. For a crispy topping, add breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter before baking.
