A beloved Italian dessert featuring layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined. Stir in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  2. Beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  3. Combine the cooled egg mixture with the mascarpone mixture until well blended.
  4. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
  5. Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a rectangular dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  6. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and remaining mascarpone mixture.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  8. Dust the top with cocoa powder and add chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

Ensure coffee is cooled properly before dipping the ladyfingers to prevent them from becoming soggy. For a richer flavor, consider using a quality coffee liqueur.
