Homemade chocolate chip cookies with perfectly crisp edges and a soft, chewy center.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Creaming the butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. Adding the eggs and vanilla: Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until everything is combined.
  3. Mixing the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Folding in the chocolate chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Chilling the dough (optional): For the best texture, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheating the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while your dough is chilling.
  7. Scooping the cookie dough: Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  8. Baking the cookies: Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are a light golden brown.
  9. Cooling the cookies: Once done, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a chewy texture, try replacing some of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
