A comforting Chicken Tikka Masala with tender chicken in a creamy, tomato-based sauce, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinating for Flavor: In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken cubes and ensure they are well-coated in the marinade. Cover and let it marinate for at least one hour, or ideally overnight for deep flavor.
  2. Sautéing the Aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, and sauté until it turns golden brown, allowing the flavors to develop and become aromatic.
  3. Infusing with Garlic and Ginger: Next, stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute until fragrant. These aromatics are the foundation of your dish, lending warmth and depth to the sauce.
  4. browning the Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pan, cooking until it’s browned on all sides. Watch as the chicken transforms, soaking up the spices and flavors from the marinade and the sautéed onions.
  5. Combining with Tomato Puree: Pour in the tomato puree, stirring well to combine. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.
  6. Creamy Finish: Stir in the heavy cream, mixing until well incorporated. Let it cook for an additional 5 minutes, resulting in a rich and creamy sauce that envelops the chicken.
  7. Final Touch: Garnish the dish with fresh cilantro before serving. This adds a pop of color and a fresh note that brightens up the dish beautifully.
