A classic American dessert featuring layers of cake, creamy vanilla pudding, and rich chocolate frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1/2 cup vanilla pudding

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour and baking powder in another bowl. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  5. Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package instructions and let it thicken while the cakes cool.
  6. Place one layer on a serving plate, spread the vanilla pudding on top, and then place the second layer over it.
  7. Top with chocolate frosting, spreading it evenly over the top and sides of the cake.
  8. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to set.

Notes

For the best flavor, serve chilled with coffee or milk. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
