  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh blood orange juice
  • Zest of 2 blood oranges
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons blood orange juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the blood orange juice and zest.
  5. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Mix the powdered sugar with blood orange juice until smooth and drizzle over the cooled cake.
