A classic Black Forest Cake featuring rich chocolate layers, tart cherries, and fluffy whipped cream, perfect for any celebration.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 jar (24 oz) morello cherries
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla to the dry mixture. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed, then stir in boiling water.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Whip the cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  7. Slice each cake round horizontally in half to create four layers.
  8. Layer with cherry juice, whipped cream, and cherries between each cake layer.
  9. Top with the final layer, cover the cake with remaining whipped cream, and garnish with chocolate shavings.
  10. Serve and enjoy your Black Forest Cake!

Notes

For added flavor, consider using fresh cherries when in season. Best served with vanilla ice cream.
