A majestic Beef Standing Rib Roast, perfect for festive gatherings or special occasions, delivering rich flavors and a tender, juicy texture.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 kg (5 lb) standing rib roast
  • 150 g softened unsalted butter
  • 5 minced garlic cloves
  • Fresh rosemary, chopped
  • Fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 head of garlic, halved
  • Beef broth
  • Dry red wine

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 120°C / 250°F.
  2. Bring the standing rib roast to room temperature for about an hour.
  3. Create the flavorful butter rub by mixing softened butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Prepare the roasting bed by quartering an onion and halving a garlic head; place them in the roasting pan.
  5. Rub the butter mixture over the entire surface of the rib roast.
  6. Assemble the roast on the onion and garlic, pouring beef broth and red wine around it.
  7. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the roast and roast for about 2 hours.
  8. Rest the roast for at least 20 minutes after removing it from the oven.
  9. Carve the roast and serve, garnishing with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Leftover prime rib can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
